Everybody’s favorite, albeit slightly clumsy sleuth, Hildibrand, is a returningFinal Fantasy XIVcharacter in every expansion — minusShadowbringers. Finding where his quest begins in each expansion can be a daunting task, but here’s a quick-fire guide to hunting him down every step of the way.

Why are the Hildibrand quests important?
To accessEndwalker‘s Manderville Relic Weapons, you need to complete theentire back catalogof Hildibrand quests from beginning to end. With an update arriving for both thestory and weapons in Patch 6.55, now is a good time to catch up if you’ve not completed them.
It’s worth noting that before you can begin Hildibrand’s adventures in each expansion, you’ll need to have completed the final MSQ quest from that expansion:
All of the Manderville quests are the maximum level for the expansion in which they were released, so you’ll not only need to have completed the MSQ, but you’ll also need to complete all Manderville quests on a maximum level Job.
Keeping track of your progress
If you’ve been away from the Hildibrand story for a while, it can be hard to remember where you left off. A good way to figure this out is toutilize your Journal. OnFFXIV’sM+KB controls, tap ‘J’ for the default shortcut.
After opening your Journal, click on“Completed”. Select the blue Sidequests tab and choose“Hildibrand Sidequests”from the drop-down menu. This displays every Hildibrand quest you’ve already completed.
A Realm Reborn – Hildibrand Adventures
To pick up the first-everHildibrand Adventuresquest, visitUl’dahand hunt downWymond on the Steps of Nald (X9.8, Y8.7). He gives you “The Rise and Fall of Gentlemen”.
Note: This quest requires you to completeA Realm Reborn’s“The Ultimate Weapon” Main Scenario Quest. The rest of ARR’s questline is outlined on theLodestone.
Heavensward – Further Hildibrand Adventures
To beginHeavensward’sFurther Hildibrand Adventures, head toIshgardand findNashu, Hildibrand’s unwavering sidekick, in thePillars (X5.9, Y9.9). Accept the quest called “A Gentleman Falls, Rather Than Flies”.
Stormblood – Even Further Hildibrand Adventures
The first quest in theStormblooditeration of this story,Even Further Hildibrand Adventures, is picked up inKugane. Head there and find an NPC with the title of‘Conspicuously Inconspicuous Man’ (X10.6 Y9.8). Once you’ve found him, accept the quest called“A Hingan Tale: Nashu Goes East”.
Endwalker – Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures
Having skipped overShadowbringers, Hildibrand makes anEndwalkercomeback with theSomehow Further Hildibrand Adventures. To pick up the first quest in this expansion, head toRadz-at-Hanand find theExcitable Youth (X11.8 Y11.2). Accept the quest called“The Sleeping Gentleman”and embark upon the latestupdate to the story.
Dawntrail – Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures
There aren’t any more expansion skips for old Hildy, and he’s back inDawntrail, getting into mischief in Solution Nine. To pick up the first quest for the Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures, head to Tulliyolal and talk to Nashu (X:14.5, Y:12.5). Bear in mind you’ll need to have completed the level 100 MSQ quest “Dawntrail” before you can meet Hildibrand and co. again inDawntrail.
