Guerrilla Games casually drops Horizon 3 reference

Fans of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon universe, as well as its irrepressible hero, Aloy, will be pleased to hear that we can expect much more from the robot-filled dystopia, following comments from the studio that casually reference (at least) one more title in the visually-stunning adventure series.

The comments came followinga shake-up of Guerrilla staff, which sees studio director and executive producer Angie Smets leave the developer to take up a new role as PlayStation Studios’  head of development strategy. In Smets’ absence, production director Joel Eschler and general manager Hella Schmidt will receive promotion within studio ranks, while current studio director Jan-Bart van Beek will retain their role at Guerrilla, overseeing all current and future projects.

In comments discussing Smets’ departure, Guerrilla notes that it “[has] full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world ofHorizonwith Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project.” essentially confirming the continuation of the franchise. This news will hardly come as a surprise to anybody in this franchise-heavy gaming zeitgeist, but it’s still a nice bit of security for franchise fans.

Most recently,Horizon Forbidden Westreceived a new expansion in the form of DLCBurning Shores, which sees Aloy travel to a dystopian (but somewhat familiar) new locale, where she meets new friends, encounters terrifying new Machines, and takes up arms with a selection of new weaponry. Despite a battalion of review bombs — derived mostly for the most eye-rolling of reasons — the DLC has been mostly well-received by both critics andHorizonfans.
