It’s safe to say that gamers eagerly await news regarding a release date forGrand Theft Auto VI, with every official bit of news or trailer being overly dissected to the point of frame-by-frame analysis. It’s set to be the biggest game release in years, so how can you guarantee your copy?

Well, you can’t yet, at least not officially. Rockstar hasn’t provided a release date, let alone offered any details about an official pre-order. However, one business in Malaysia is getting ahead of the curve.

Is an international game store already selling GTA VI pre-orders?

One attentive fan eager to get their hands onGTA VInoticed that Gamer’s Hideout, a video game and tech store with 5 physical stores in Malaysia and a successful online store, seemed to have a mock-up physical copy of the game on the shelf at one of their stores.

The box, featuring the same artwork that’s become embedded in players’ minds by this point, also has a “pre-order” sticker on it, along with a price of RM14.90 (roughly $3 USD). A quick visit to theGamer’s Hideout websiteconfirms this to be true, but don’t get your hopes up just yet.

First off, this isn’tactuallythe start of pre-orders. The store is just letting you reserve your pre-order early with a small downpayment, which allows them to judge how many copies they need to order for release day and lock in a few early sales. If you’re in the States, stores like GameStop have done a similar practice for years, and will likely do so forGrand Theft Auto VIcloser to release.

According to the Gamer’s Hideout website, the small deposit is non-refundable for any other reason than non-fulfillment, and anyone who pays this small price will need to then pay the full cost of the game (when it’s finally revealed) no less than 14 days before the launch day, whenever that eventually ends up being.

Second, and I’m sorry to burst any hopeful bubble that might have been created by the original post on Reddit, but this “pre-order” is not available to anybody outside of Malaysia. Gamer’s Hideout does not deliver internationally, so unless you’re planning to add a trip to the country on top of what might already be a higher-than-average game cost, you’re out of luck.

Hopefully, Rockstar will decide to release an actual release date forGTA VI, along with pre-order details, soon. Until then, I guess it’s back to looking at the same old artwork.
