If you’re keeping track — I’m not sure how you are —Star Wars: Battlefront IIImight have changed hands several times. Initially, it was Free Radical’s game. Theleaked alpha footagefrom last week (literally) had their watermark all over it. When the studiopseudo-closed,Battlefront IIIwas allegedly handed over to the PlayStation Portable developer of the second game, Rebellion. Then, we reported it wassupposedly given to Pandemic, the studio responsible for starting the series.

Is it Rebellion or Pandemic? How about both? According toVG247’ssource, Rebellion was at one time, only responsible for the PlayStation 2 version. “Rebellion was actually working on the PS2 version,” the source said. “The plan was to take the PS2 game and use it as a basis for 360 and PS3 versions, as opposed to using the Free Radical tech.”

Rebellion’s handling of the game makes sense. Reports earlier this week indicated that Pandemic (and apparently Rebellion) did not have access to the hip animation technology that Free Radical was using. Developers don’t like to share — even if they’re in the hole.

And to make this mess worse, everything is unconfirmed. EA won’t comment on the matter — Pandemic is rumored to be doing so “shortly” — which leaves us in the cold. Shivering. Waiting to playas an evil Obi-Wan.
