Trico and trust: The high risk of high hopes

Promoted from our Community Blogs! [Dtoid community blogger Everyday Legend is an optimist at heart. Want to see your own blog appear on our front page?Go write something!–Mr Andy Dixon] There’s a saying my father always verbally drilled into my skull: “If you’re gonna do something, verify you do it well, and if you want to do it well, make sure you do it rightthe first time.“ I see a lot of games get patched after release, a lot of product pushed out in the name of selling units, unvarnished and technically unfinished, awaiting that final coat of paint (or more, in worse cases)....

Xbox One hopes to last at least a decade

Ten years is a long time, dude The Canadian director for Xbox Marketing, Craig Flannagan, toldGamesIndustry Internationalsome very interesting things about Microsoft’s hope for its shiny new console, theXbox One. Flannagan sounds pretty confident that the Xbox One is going to be awesome, and that it’s the best thing you can buy this holiday, and for every holiday for the next decade. He said that “I think there is not a better experience you can buy this holiday, and there will not be a time this generation where there’s a better experience you can buy than Xbox One....

Astroneer is a minimalist No Man’s Sky

But with four-player co-op and terrain deforming I first playedAstroneerat PAX West earlier this year, and it caught my attention immediately. It’s near impossible to describe without mentioningNo Man’s Sky(NMS), as they’re both procedurally generated games that revolve around exploration and upgrading your character. Unlike the higher-profileNMS,Astroneerfocuses on base building and terrain deformation, with each procedurally generated planet composed of flat-shaded polygons that can be added to or destroyed by your mining tool....

Booooo: Bloodborne delayed until March 2015

More like Booborne I thought a February 2015 release date for the recently revealedBloodbornewas too good to be true, and it seems that was the case. The game is now on track for a March 24 launch, delaying the game by roughly a month. From Software has noted that some of the feedback from the alpha will be implemented to give the game more polish, which is good news. They also tease more “exciting” news for December....

Destructoid community: We need to replace PAX

Peace out Last week, tickets for PAX Prime 2014 went on sale. The four-day passes were sold out within minutes. The rest were gone in less than two hours. This happens every year, but it seems like the speed becomes more and more unbelievable each time. Like clockwork, this causes a general uproar among the many who were not fortunate enough to be watching Twitter at the exact moment that the opening was announced....

Destructoid interview: Jerald Block MD on videogames and Columbine

Jerald Block MDfirst came to Destructoid’s attention earlier in the month when Haleyran a reporton the Oregon psychiatrist and researcher’s latest work on the Columbine massacre. Published in the American Journal of Forensic Psychiatry, Block’s paperLessons From Columbine: Virtual and Real Ragetakes the stance that rather than being incited to violence by the violent gaming content they had a predilection for, killers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris actually used their admittedly obsessionalDoomfandom as a sanctuary from the real world and a way to funnel their real-life rage....

E3: 360 degrees of the Wii U’s PanoramaView

Nintendo continues to show off the Wii U’s capabilities with tech demos, and PanoramaView looks to be another one of them. Our own Jonathan Holmes played around with the feature, which lets you use theGamePadas a window into a world that was previously filmed with a 360° camera. He got a look at the madness of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, and then tried something a little less boisterous: a day-night tour of London from the top of a double-decker bus....

Goron Tablet Cushion brings lazy to a whole new level

Most useful/useless TGS find so far A small booth tucked against the wall on the Tokyo Game Show floor has regular demonstrations for their only product here, named Goron. This “tablet cushion” is essentially a head pillow with an arm mount for tablets or smartphones. Basically, this allows you to enjoy your tablet without holding it. It’s furniture and a third arm. It’s weird. It’s incredibly lazy. I want one....

Have some Overlord II videos, by all means

Codemasters’Overlord IIis nearly upon us, and I am looking forward to it significantly, thank you very much. In anticipation of the hopefully excellent sequel, two brand new videos have been unleashed. A second developer diary, and a trailer that shows off the game’s enemies. Yes, one of the opponentsisa giant panda. The latest dev diary concerns itself with the game’s most important facet — the Minions. It explains what happened to the little buggers after the destruction of the original Overlord tower, and they are promised to be more destructive and funny than last time....

Have you seen Final Fantasy XV’s malboro? Terrifying

Ah, the days when the sight of a drooling malboro brought with it dread. This encounter is looking as ifFinal Fantasy XVwill recapture that worry. With the push towards realism and the large scope of the world, it needs believable encounters more than additional grinding. This looks intimidating. It seems already likeFinal Fantasy XVis treating its monsters more like local wildlife than out of place, separate screen encounters. I think that’s a good look....
