Oculus: We’re not out to make VR games like The Last of Us

It’s focusing on smaller experiences Oculus VR has beenhard at workassembling teams of developers for its first-party games initiative. However, when titles begin to release, don’t expect them to be lengthy melodramas that aim to compete with other games in the triple-A space. At least not right away. When I talked with Oculus VR founder and CEO Brendan Iribe and VP of product Nate Mitchell, they told me that the first-party experiences Oculus wants to create immediately are shorter ones that show off what the technology can do....

Reggie is hyped about E3, but can we ever trust him again?

To say that Nintendo was tight-lipped at GDC about games coming out after the first quarter this year is about as much of an understatement as saying their press conference at last year’s E3 was only somewhat of a let down. They wouldn’t budge an inch on anything exceptLegend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, and all we got of that was a trailer. Plenty of people tried to ply information out of Reggie, but nothing much came of it except for aquote from X-Play, where he says that E3 is going to be exciting....

Review: PlayStation VR

Morpheus lives The VR battles lines have been drawn. TheOculus Riftstruck first, but has been suffering from several setbacks like accusations of operating on a closed platform. Valve has hedged its bet on theHTC Vive, the best headset on a technical level with the arguably worst library right now. And now here comes a new challenger, Sony, in an attempt to balance the strengths of both into the cheapest consumer-grade tech to date....

SDCC: Bulletproof zombies added to Left 4 Dead 2’s roster

Maybe it’s just me, but talking aboutLeft 4 Dead 2in the same way you would a fighting game is ridiculously fun. It allows me to say things like “bulletproof zombies, confirmed!” and oddly enough I get a kick out of it saying such silly things. Valve has been showing the game off at Comic-Con, andKotaku hadthe opportunity to check out a new type of uncommon infected, bulletproof zombies. The kevlar-wearing infected are only vulnerable in one spot, their backs, but they can be stunned from a melee attack....

Sea of Solitude looks like a Venetian monster-fest

Pretty gif-fest Sea of Solitude—I’d takeSolitude Sea— is currently in the prototyping phase, so who knows what’ll come of it. Still, when Jordan showed me thegifs on its site, it seemed worth sharing. Similar toEnslaved, it shows an alternate, colorful, empty (but monster-filled) post-apocalyptia. Plus, the main character has been turned into a monster, too. Yeah, the loneliness metaphor and all that’s a bit on the nose, but I always appreciate a pretty game gif....

Survey: Games are the number one use for tablets

It’s hard for me to think of many uses for tablets outside of gaming, since it seems I could do everything more easily on a computer without having to paw and claw at an expensive touchscreen. Games I can understand, and so it’s somewhat telling that games are the predominant focus of tablet users. According to a survey, an overwhelming 84% of owners use tablets for the playing of games, while 78% use it for searches and info gathering....
