Summer Games Fest is always a wild ride. With the event showcasing massive upcoming games, small indie gems sprinkled in the mix, and a few unexpected shadow drops to grab people’s attention, there’s no time like the present to get hyped for some games. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be more confused yet hyped bySonic CrossWorlds. I mean, Hatsune Mikuand Minecraft? It may be a bizarre mix, but oh boy, it worked like a charm on me....
Keep building up that backlog In a cruel twist of fate, Steam’s annual Summer Sale started almost exactly one week after I bit the bullet and built my first gaming PC rig. Despite owning more than 300 games on Steam and spending more money than I should on the build, I couldn’t resist splurging on a few games. What good is a shiny (and fast) new computer if you don’t have new games to play?...
Also, Exile’s End XSEED Games just announced plans to publish a trio of indie games (Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity, physical editions ofShantae: Half-Genie Heroon select platforms, andExile’s End). Touhou: Scarlet Curiosityis a fan-made action role-playing game based on Team Shanghai Alice’s popular doujin bullet hell series that draws inspiration from Nihon Falcom’sYsgames. It was initially released at Comiket 86 in August 2014 before coming to PlayStation 4 earlier this year. XSEED is targeting a fall release via the PlayStation Store....

It’s returning to PC with “a faithful and thoroughly modern reworking” on Steam,set for release tomorrow. Sounds a hell of a lot betterthan that iOS versiona few years back. That said, even without having to fight against touch controls, I’m personally worried the user interface will feel prohibitively dated in this day and age, especially for new players....

Ancient Greece, Modern Drama Due to unspecified tech issues, Ubisoft has had to cancel the first of the “Elite Mercenary” limited-time events in their open-world adventureAssassin’s Creed Odyssey. The first event, which was expected to go live this week, would have allowed players to engage in rare quests and battles for exclusive loot. Unfortunately, Ubisoft is currently unable to fix whatever Medusa slithered into their server, announcing that this first event will not be taking place as planned....

The MOBA from developer Primal Game Studios is publisher Bandai Namco’s next push into the realm of free-to-play (you’ll remember theGundam Vs-like 2-on-2 arena fighterRise of Incarnates). Namco also sees entering the new hotly competitive genre as carrying on the competitive tradition of its fighting game heritage. Rather than spin-off an existing franchise into a MOBA — there are quite a few of those — the company let Budapest-based Primal create an original IP....

There’s some fantastic titles spread across PS4 and PS5. I know it’s getting pretty late in the month, but if you’re still going all out for October, it’s worth a serious look. The deals are sticking around through November 3. In an impulsive frenzy, I could see myself going nuts with horror games I’ve been meaning to pick up....
