Who’s the best on your block? During today’s Smash Direct, we learned a little more about the way local and online co-op will work in the upcoming madcap Nintendo brawler,Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The wealth of info that came through just about multiplayer was pretty hefty, showing how focused Nintendo is on delivering an excellent multiplayer experience. To this end, local four-player co-op is available, as is online, though it was clearly stated that a wired connection would be preferred to Wi-Fi....

I mean Link’s Awakening, of course. A modder by the name of Ty Anderson is recreating the Game Boy classic and arguably bestLegend of ZeldagameLink’s Awakeningin theOcarina of Timeengine, and I, for one, am excited. While the above trailer leaves much to be desired (so much) it at least gives us a glimpse at Link’s new look and the lovable Bow-Wow buddy (better known as Chain Chomps from theMarioseries). Atlus’ 1992 Japan-only releaseShin Megami Tenseikicked off all the demon collecting and fusing. This is the great-great-grandpa RPG of some of my favorite Atlus games, includingNocturne(my #1), thePersonagames and theDevil Survivorseries. But North America has never seen a release of the original. Until now, that is. Index Corp, Atlus’ parent company, has releasedShin Megami Tenseion the App Store. $13.99 gets you a port of the Game Boy Advance version of the game, with a virtual d-pad and buttons added to the lower half of the screen....

Ninja warrior? The sky is the limit for Yacht Club Games. In just a few months they’re set to wrap up all of the content they promised in theirShovel KnightKickstarter campaign, which began crowdfunding operations all the way back in 2013. Despite reports last night that Ubisoft’s PC DRMhas been cracked, the arrogant European publisher has maintained that its unwarranted and unfair punishment of paying customers is still currently foolproof. It’s not all bad though! Ubisoft has updated the DRM so that if your Internet connection drops and the game boots you, it will always start at the point of kickery once the game goes back online. Howthoughtfulof them. DRM v1.1 has been created, even though the original DRM hadn’t been released yet....

It’s been approximately eight seconds since a politician said something stupid about videogames, so let’sreturn to Germany, where people are still screaming and vomiting and crying over the scary games and their dangerous effects on young people. Bavarian Minister Joachim Herrmann has potentially taken the trophy for “dumbest thing ever said about games” by likening them to illegal drugs and child pornography. “In regards to their harmful effects, [violent video games] are on the same level as child pornography and illegal drugs,” he claims, “the ban on which is rightly unquestioned....
