Time to start practicing At Sony’s gamescom press conference, senior business development manager at SCEEShahid Ahmad brought word thatN++will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4 when it releases this winter. This was just one of a handful of independent titles announced for Sony systems and although we don’t have too much to go on, a few details were discussed. N++will have new multiplayer modes, thousands of levels, and the ability to create, share, and compete on endless levels of your own creation....

Playing the revived series for the first time and on Xbox One Sports, television, videogames.NBA Live 14is the Xbox Onetrifecta. TheNBA Liveseries has long been dormant, finally reviving itself on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this month. The key word I kept hearing was “relevancy,” which is appropriate. It’s something the series needs to regain. EA’s ambitions, however, are not to just make a basketball that can compete with2Kat a fundamental level....

Still a ways off, then What’s the holdup onNew Hot Shots Golf? I don’t know, but the happy-go-lucky golf title is confirmed for an July 28, 2025 release in Japan, which hopefully puts the Western launch not far behind. This trailer covers much of the same ground as before, highlighting the actual golfing, of course, but also some leisurely side activities like fishing and carting around. Seems pleasant enough! In Japan, the game will see a physical and digital release priced at 5,900 yen, with DLC for things like extra courses and costumes making it into a 9,200 yen “All Courses Special Pack” edition, perGematsu....

And even more cards Nintendo isn’t keen to share everything, but it’s happy to tell us about itsamiibosales. Yesterday it released another financial earnings report, detailing that it has pushed “20.5 million units” in terms of the figures, and “21.5 million units” of cards. In a post-wave 4 world, amiiboaren’t that difficult to find. You can walk into any store and get just about any newly released figure, and Roy, the latest store exclusive, has been up for pre-order fordaysin-store and online at GameStop....

Also, Hotline Miami Collection Nintendo got all surprisey on us during Gamescom this week and gave us not one, but two “check under your chairs!” instant releases. One isSuperhot,the incredible game that I recommend everyone plays (though in VR if possible). The other is theHotline Miami Collection, a nice pair of great action games. Hit them with a bat. Ninja Baseball Bat Manisnota baseball game. It also has nothing to do with Batman. It’s actually a wacky arcade beat-’em-up released in 1993 by Irem (maker ofR-Type). You might assume it’s just another example of Japanese weirdness. However, while the game was developed in Japan, the original concept came from Irem’s U.S. National Sales Manager Drew Maniscalco. As is typical of the beat-’em-up genre, there isn’t much plot here....

Another day, another lawsuit SEGA is taking Level-5 to court over itsInazuma Elevensoccer games, claiming they infringe on a patent the larger publisher holds. The bone of contention is the ability to move characters via a finger or pen on a touchscreen. Yes, apparently SEGA has the sole claim to that, and it’s guarding its property like a dragon on a big pile of gold. SEGA wants all eight Inazuma Eleven games removed from sale, plus¥900 million in damages....
