The NPD Group’s latest report, Insights into the Freemium Games Market, says that 40 percent of gamers that play freemium games have spent money in-game. When you consider that around 38 percent of the U.S. population plays some kind of freemium game, it seems that there’s definitely some money to be made out there.

Over 6,400 individuals were polled for this report, which found that females are more likely to play freemium games, but are less likely to spend money in-game than men. A sizable 84 percent of gamers who try freemium titles continue playing, and the majority of players pay within the first month of playing. Only 15 percent of gamers who are aware of this type of game choose not to play them.
