At first glance, Gustave, the playable engineer, looks like Robert Pattinson—brooding stare, chiseled jaw, and undeniable skin-of-a-killer energy. WithClair Obscur: Expedition 33out, the resemblance is uncanny. But plot twist: Pattinson isn’t in it. Charlie Cox, another superhero alum, takes the lead, and he’s not the only iconic actor involved.
As someone who’s done a few double-takes at Gustave’s appearance, I totally understand why many players and viewers thought he was played by Pattinson. The mustache is the dead giveaway. It’s practically a clone of his character, Thomas Howard, fromThe Lighthouse. When placing them side by side, I couldn’t help but wonder if Pattinson was the inspiration. What’s even more curious is that Charlie Cox was right there, yet somehow, his face didn’t make the cut.
Even though we weren’t graced with Charlie Cox’s appearance, his voice acting more than makes up for it. I’ve been a fan sinceStardustand eventually followed him into his most recent project,Daredevil: Born Again. The way he brings emotion to his performances is unmatched, and inExpedition 33, he brings Gustave to life in a way that feels incredibly real. Cox’s performance isn’t the only highlight, though. The cast is filled with familiar voices, especially for those who spend a lot of time with RPGs.
Within the first minute of the game,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33feels like a homecoming forBaldur’s Gate 3fans. You’ll quickly recognize Jennifer English, known for her role as Shadowheart. And it doesn’t end there. Devora Wilde, the voice of Lae’zel, and Tracy Wiles, who played Jaheira, also joined the cast.
Don’t even get me started on Andy Serkis’s role as Renoid inExpedition 33. He’s the cornerstone of my childhood. I could gush about thevoice castfor ages, but it’s probably best you discover the rest for yourself. Hint, hint, there’s someone special in there forFinal Fantasyfans.
While Robert Pattinson isn’t part of the mix, his likeness kind of makes an appearance inExpedition 33. Maybe he’ll land an RPG role one day. He’s already shared his love forFinal Fantasy VII, so a full-on video game debut might not be too far off.
