Claims PS4 must target the core audience before expanding

Loud and clear, Sony boss man Kazuo Hirai believes that the PlayStation 4 must target core gamers from the outset before expanding for others mind share. Speaking withWall Street Journal’sWalt Mossberg during a talk at theD11 conference, Hirai stated “I fundamentally believe that the initial market that we need to make sure we appeal to with any new platform … is really the gaming audience … They will be the supporters of your platform and they will help propel the installed base.”

Hirai confirmed that the PS4 will have non-gaming applications, but says the focus on those will come “after we establish the platform as a videogame platform. For us, it’s all about the gamers.”
