Devolver Digital Films focuses on games-first digital platforms
Devolver Digital, publisher of indie hitsSerious Sam 3andHotline Miami, will be promoting indie films through its new arm Devolver Digital Films, starting with a documentary in May. With partners in London, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, this new film subsidiary will focus on bringing indie films onto games-first digital platforms (though, not any announced at this time).
At the forefront of this partnership is veteran game designer, co-founder and partner of Devolver Digital Mike Wilson, who produced and starred in stoner comedyAustin Highin 2011. He is joined by VP of acquisitions Andie Grace (pictured above), who previously overlooked film and television projects at Burning Man festival.
“It’s not enough to just put your film on cable and other digital outlets if nobody knows it’s there,” Wilson said in a press release. “We hope to be that much needed second or third wind to truly find an audience for the film at the home stretch and finish line.”
Devolver Digital will continue to publish games, such as the upcoming puzzle gameDungeon Hearts. However, Wilson will be focusing on film at SXSW, encouraging filmmakers to pitch their films in person or by email at[email protected].
“Andie and I are looking for interesting projects that we feel like we can help find an audience for,” Wilson told me in an email. “Our first one (unannounced) coming out in May is a documentary feature, but we’re looking for all sorts.”
