In an interview with1UP, Deadline Games’ Søren Lund confirmed that their Watchmen games — a brawler in two parts for Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network — will be coming to retail.
According to Lund, the disc will likely ship alongside (or close to) the film’s DVD and Blu-Ray release, scheduled for a July 21 release. The game’s publisher, Warner Bros., has told 1UP more details on the disc should be coming soon.
Watchmen: The End is Nighhit consoles as a digital download in early March, to coincide with the release of the film. I was forced to play through the repetitive brawler’s six chapters forour review. That was quite enough to make me not want to play the still unreleased second game, which I can only imagine will be more of the same. You can only fight the same two fat and skinny dudes for so long, you know?
The smartest thing Warner Bros. can do with this disc is sell it at a low price point, and include enoughWatchmenfan-service content to make it worth anyone’s while. Otherwise, GameStop is going to be sitting on a lot of used copies of these things by August.
[Update: Warner has officially unveiled this, with a “Complete Experience” Blu-ray movie/game combo on two-discs, and the single-game DVD for Xbox 360. Both are shipping in July. Details — but no pricing — after the jump]
