Something old, something new

The studio formerly known as DICE LA is now making games under a new name. Today,Electronic Arts announcedthat DICE LA has become Ripple Effect Studios.

DICE LA waspreviously put under the leadershipof Respawn founder Vince Zampella, with the goal of it becoming a full-fledged studio in its own right. Now, the support studio of sorts is branching out as Ripple Effect Studios. And while it’s contributing a “player-inspired experience” to the upcomingBattlefield 2042, Ripple Effect is also working on its own unannounced project.

“We’re so proud of our work as DICE LA and the DICE team will forever be a part of our DNA, but over the past eight years, we’ve developed our own culture and our own way of doing things,” said Ripple Effect GM Christian Grass in today’s announcement. “We’re excited to look towards the future, expand the team and establish our own identity.”

What that looks like, we’ll hopefully see soon. EA is set to air a number of streams this month, including one tomorrow about the “future of first-person shooters,” leading upto EA Play Live on July 22.

It’s exciting to see this team venture out on its own with help from Respawn, following that studio’s success with games likeApex LegendsandStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Hopefully it’s a sign of more ripple effects to come (pun genuinely unintended).

Electronic Arts, meanwhile, is gearing up for its round of summer news and announcements at EA Play Live. WhileBattlefield 2042is an obvious candidate for attendance, the publisher also has a number of other projects to talk about. Several streams are building up to July 22, featuring some indie projects and EA’s sports lineup. Sadly,BioWare recently confirmedit won’t have anyDragon AgenorMass Effectnews to share.
