Apex Legends’next season is introducing a new item type calledAmps: lootable buffs you may find within the Apex Games’ casual and ranked matches. Respawn Entertainment revealed five of them so far, and their effects range from better armor to infinite ammo.

“Amps are not just another gear slot,” battle royale designer JJ Odell said at a press event ahead of the new season. “They’re a set of distinct abilities that allow you to customize your playstyle and take on your rivals in your own way.”

Respawn showed off a few of the new Amps during the event, and each seemed powerful enough to give players a good advantage in a fight. They have a multitude of uses, both offensively and defensively. TheBottomless BatteriesAmp, for instance, doesn’t consume any shield batteries as long as you have two of them in your inventory.

Infinite Ammo, on the other hand, does exactly what’s on the tin: it grants unlimited ammo to your weapons at the expense of two inventory slots. You don’t have to lug around 2000 bullets for your Devotion, and you may also swap guns liberally without having to find a different ammo type.

Three other Amps seem to be available with Showdown. WithOverflow Healer, shield cells and syringes heal you over time for 100 percent of their base healing, whilePower Boosterreduces the cooldown for your ultimate and tactical. If you knock an enemy with it equipped, you refill a tactical charge on top of the other bonuses. There’s also the simple-yet-effectiveOver Armor Amp, which boosts your max shield by 25 points.

These items will be available throughout the match, but expect them to start appearing by the midgame, according to Odell. You can find them in both unranked and ranked matches.

Amps have the potential to shake up theApexmeta, especially alongside the rest of the changes coming with Showdown. Players can hope for an Amp on supply bins starting on Aug. 5, when season 26 releases.
