Mechanicus: hey, I remember these guys in tabletop form

Although myWarhammer 40Ktabletop experience has slowed to “infrequent” status this past year, I’ve played hundreds of hours of it in my lifetime, to the point where I can instantly recognize any unit that pops up in a game.

I had that feeling withWarhammer 40,000: Mechanicus(as you’re able to see in the key art above, the Imperium will be doing battle with the Necrons: which are basically the Terminators of the40Kuniverse.), which is now slated for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch releases “early next year.” This isn’t a new game, mind:Mechanicushas been out for some time on PC (since last November), and was positively received by the community.

As a turn-based strategy game (true to form for the source) where you take control of the advanced Adeptus Mechanicus faction, it’s your job to snatch up ancient tech to boost your own cause. Note that the console edition will be sporting more difficulty settings, includingXCOMstaples permadeath and an Iron Man mode. The teaser trailer below does a decent job of setting up the whole “grimdark” theme thatWarhammer 40Kexcels at, but not much in terms of gameplay.
