Right at the very beginning ofDragon Quest 3, you’ll be given a personality test to decide upon your stats. Each personality type has different strengths and weaknesses, so leaving it down to chance can cause a lot of issues further down the line.

Some personality types aredefinitely preferableto others inDQ3, with the Vamp personality giving the most evenly balanced stats. However, the Vamp personality type is restricted to female Heroes.

On the plus side, it is possible to fix your stats using Stat Seeds that are collected as you play, so even if you get a personality type that doesn’t suit your preferred gameplay style, it’s not the end of the world. And if you’retrulyunhappy with your given personality, you’re able to also change it using items or accessories.

All personality test questions in Dragon Quest 3

There are a total of 49 questions that you’re able to possibly be asked during the personality test, but you’ll only get the chance to answer a small number of them. There are five possible first questions, and depending on how you answer that question, you’ll potentially end up with an entirely different result.

The questions that you answer will eventually lead to one of eight Final Scenarios, and how you act during those scenarios will dictate which personality you end up with. This all sounds very confusing, but let’s take a closer look.

How to change personality type in Dragon Quest 3

There are two ways to change your personality type inDQ3, either temporarily or permanently. Named books that are discovered in various locations around the map provide a permanent change to personality, while accessories picked up along the way will change your personality for as long as they are equipped.

Books that permanently change personality

If you want to change your personality (or another party member’s) using a book, you’ll need to use the book from within your Item Bag. This will consume the book and change your personality to those listed below:

Accessories that temporarily change personality

To change a personality type using an accessory, you’ll need to equip it on whoever you want to give a mental transformation to. This can be done through the Equipment menu, and the personality-changing effect will be removed when the accessory is removed.

Here are all of the accessories that can change personalities and what personality you’ll end up with when they’re equipped:
