Nielsen survey highlights most-wanted next-gen games

Call of Duty: Ghosts. Really? The results are in for a next-gen gaming survey given to active male and female games in the United States between the ages of 7-54, and according to Nielsen’s findings, the most-wanted title of the eighth console generation isCall of Duty: Ghosts. It gets better, thankfully. To me, the most interesting data was the top five most-wanted exclusives for each console. Those were: 30 percent of respondents said they definitely planned to buy a PlayStation 4, 22 percent said the same for Xbox One, and the Wii U had interest from 10 percent....

NRG imported one of Rocket League’s biggest superstars and now they’re finally world champions

At long last In 2001, the Seattle Mariners signed Ichiro Suzuki from the Japanese major leagues, a landmark international transfer at the time. It paid immediate dividends. The Mariners were transformed into world-beaters, tying the record for regular season wins. NRG has a similar story. After the retirement of longtime NRG staple Fireburner this summer, GarrettG and Jstn looked to Europe to fill the void. They imported three-time world champion Turbopolsa, relocating him to North America in hopes that they’d finally exorcise their demons and becomeRocket Leagueworld champions....

Obama promotes temperance, game journos freak out

Recently, presidential hopeful Barack Obama has made a fewspeechesthat apparently stuck in the meaty, burbling craw of the gaming community, resulting in a flurry of tyrannical screeds, predictably reactionary to the point of being sad and pathetic. The kind of sad where the only reasonable reaction is to simply shake your head slowly, or pinch the bridge of your nose and sigh deeply, shutting your eyes tightly to block out the ceaseless parade of imbeciles....

Portal Stories: Mel mod gets a teaser, coming soon

Now THIS is my kind of downloadable content Portal Stories: Melis a lovely-looking community-made mod forPortal 2that’s due out sometime in Q1 2015, according to the title’s storepage. The lengthy 20+ level mod will feature a new protagonist called (you guessed it) Mel, who will be partnered up with an all-new personality core and will ultimately face off against a “new, still unknown threat.” The mod will also feature custom story and dialogue, as well as new models, textures, animations and a really nifty-looking ’70s version of the Portal gun....

Red Faction: Armageddon has exposition

And here it is. Narrated by the smuggler character Kara, this promotional video from THQ lays out some of the basic plot points inRed Faction: Armageddonto tantalize you. And there are a bunch of new screenshots featuring the major players. For my money, they could have just showed more footage of their gravity gun in action. That thing looks totally sweet. Admittedly, I’ve never playedRed Factionapart from participating in the multiplayer beta forGuerrilla....

Spartacus Legends trailer has big chaps and decapitation

So it looks like Ubisoft are bringing the brutal, violent, character-driven, ahistorical dramaSpartacusto therealm of gaming. I’m actually a bit of aSpartacusfan, though my interest in the show waned with the loss of the always brilliant John Hannah. Beneath the tits and violence there are some cracking characters and lots of typically Roman intrigue. Unfortunately, it looks likeSpartacus Legendswill just be focusing on the violence. Awful, jerky, dated violence. The announcement trailer liberally uses clips from the show for good reason, the game looks pretty terrible....
